The Innovators - Creative Big Band and Jazz

This Compilation features some very inventive arrangements featuring The Alec Wilder Octette, Paul Whiteman's Orchestra, Stan Kenton , Ambrose and others. Sid Phillips composed some quirky numbers which were recorded by Bert Ambroses' Orchestra. Dodging a Divorcee and Garden of Weed were written by Reginald Forsythe. The earliest recordings are those of Merle Johnston's Sax Quartette and his Ceco Couriers - presented here by virtue of progressive voicing in the sax section. The song "Shangri-La " recorded by the Lettermen in the sixties, was originally recorded in symphonic proportions by Matty Malneck and his Orchestra in 1947. Johnny Eaton and his Princetonians present small combo jazz with a twist, recorded in 1956. Last but not least is the drumming tour-de-force Sing Sing Sing written by Louis Prima - the drums here are the fabulous Gene Krupa.
